Lexar Professional NM800 Pro SSD Review

3D MARK STORAGE GAMING BENCHMARK

UL Solutions has created a new storage gaming benchmark that we will start to use as new SSDs come in.  The 3DMark Storage Benchmark DLC extends 3DMark Advanced Edition with a dedicated component test for measuring the gaming performance of SSDs and other storage hardware. It supports all the latest storage technologies and tests practical, real-world gaming performance for activities such as loading games, saving progress, installing game files, and recording gameplay video streams.

3DMark is a fairly new tool in our toolbox and we have only tested a few other drives to date,  the SK hynix Platinum P41 scoring a 4225 and the KIOXIA XG8 client SSD achieving 3812.  As we get more drives tested, we will see just how the Lexar pro NM800 pro makes out.

REPORT ANALYSIS AND FINAL THOUGHTS

There is lots of good to say about the Lexar Professional NM800 Pro NVMe SSD, the least of which is that it was only seconded by the Intel Optane in our Real World File Comparison testing.  This was totally unexpected as were the consistent results we saw in both PCMark 10 Full and Quick Storage Benchmarks.  The NM800 Pro speaks to performance of 7500MB/s read and 6500MB/s write and our testing fell short of this at 7100MB/s read and 6500MB/s write but there is a reason for this.  Our testing was done with an Intel Test Bench whereas this specification would have been reached using an AMD Test Bench, that of which would naturally boost the read performance close to the 7500MB/s mark.

This SSD has the performance.  A key factor that we really appreciate is the fact that Lexar took the time to create and include an attractive aluminum heatsink that fits within the storage container of PS5 gaming systems, especially since Gen 4 SSD heat and PS5 systems has been such a concern.  Pricing is also great considering the performance, the included heatsink and the 5-year limited warranty.  Although one could even get it a bit cheaper without the heatsink,  we find pricing to hit just the right spot we might like to see with all similar SSDs.  Great product Lexar!
