The SSD Review, Flash Memory Summit, The Rolling Barrage and One Amazing Journey Across The Continent – And You Can Play a Part!

Might as well start with the bad news.

Unfortunately, TSSDR won’t be attending Flash Memory Summit this year, as another event has taken priority. While we’re disappointed to miss the opportunity to connect with everyone in person, we’d still love to hear from you. If your company has news to share, would like to discuss new developments, or would like to arrange a meeting at a later date, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

We’ve been part of the flash storage industry since 2007, and it’s been a privilege to contribute, even in a small way, to the evolution of the NAND flash world. We truly appreciate the relationships we’ve built over the years and look forward to continuing those conversations.

Now for the exciting news… and this is where you can play a part!

Many of you know that I am both a military and police veteran, having served 10 years in the military and 30 years as a police officer.

This year, I’ll be taking part in my fourth cross-country ride with The Rolling Barrage. Our journey will span Canada from the Atlantic shores of Newfoundland to the Pacific coast of British Columbia, raising awareness and support for veterans and first responders.

This is no leisurely road trip. The ride demands endurance, determination, and a willingness to face whatever conditions come our way. Like the mail carrier’s motto, neither rain nor rough weather stops us.

Don’t believe me? Just take a look at this photo from my last ride with the group, when we found ourselves in what became the largest single-day rainfall event in Halifax, Nova Scotia’s recorded history. It was a day none of us will ever forget.

For the past decade, The Rolling Barrage has been dedicated to supporting military veterans and first responders by raising awareness of PTSD, promoting mental wellness, and helping those who have served our communities and our country.

As a non-profit organization, we ride from coast to coast across Canada each year, raising funds that are donated to programs and organizations making a meaningful difference in the lives of veterans and first responders. These include service dog training and placement, PTSD recovery retreats, equine therapy programs for veterans, and organizations that provide handmade quilts to veterans in need of comfort and support.

If an organization is helping improve the lives of veterans, there’s a good chance The Rolling Barrage is proud to support its mission.

This is the tire dip from our 2023 ride in Newfoundland.

While the official route takes us from the Atlantic coast to the Pacific, the full journey is even longer. We still have to travel to the starting point and make our way home after reaching the West Coast, bringing the total distance to approximately 14,000 kilometres (8,700 miles for my friends in the U.S.).

My role on the Rolling Barrage is as the team’s photographer, documenting the people, places, and moments that make this incredible journey so memorable. The images you’ll see throughout this post are my work.

Now, if you’re interested, this is where you can be part of the journey.

Every rider in the Rolling Barrage participates as a volunteer. This year, we’ll have approximately 125 riders making the full trip. Each person covers their own expenses, including accommodations, meals, fuel, and motorcycle maintenance, which typically total between $4,000 and $6,000 out of pocket.

That’s because every dollar donated to the Rolling Barrage is directed back into supporting veterans and first responders through the programs and organizations we fund.

This year, the Rolling Barrage has introduced a Sponsor-a-Rider program, making it easy to help in whatever way you’re comfortable. Whether it’s the equivalent of buying a rider a meal, covering a tank of fuel, or contributing more toward the journey, every bit of support is appreciated.

If you’re a business interested in supporting the Rolling Barrage on a larger scale, corporate sponsorship opportunities are also available here: [Corporate Sponsorship Link]

And if you happen to see us rolling through your community, give us a wave! You’re also welcome to join us for part of the ride if you’re a motorcyclist. If nothing else, please consider sharing this post to help spread the word. Every share helps us reach more people and support more veterans and first responders.
