USB4 has been out for some time now and, to say the least, it has been a breath of fresh air to storage enthusiasts and media professionals worldwide.  Newest on that USB4 storage block is the Samsung P9 USB4 Portable SSD which is capable of 4GB/s read and 3.8GB/s write speeds. What’s is an even more important metric is that …

This report is rather special.  Just under ten years ago, we did a report on an Apricorn Aegis Secure Key 3.0 (ASK3) external SSD which is my longest standing product still in use today.  Ten years.  Most recently, Apricorn reached out asking if I might like to report on their newer updated version of the ASK3 and I couldn’t resist.  …

It’s rare that we open a report with such high praise for a product right from the first sentence. It’s even rarer when that product happens to be an external SSD. In fact, I’ve only done it once before back in 2018 for the Tekq Rapide. That same TB3 external SSD is still sitting right in front of me today. …

We have reviewed several security-positioned portable SSDs over the years and one of the most common things we get is that companies are awaiting their FIPS certification.  This doesn’t speak negative to the product being reviewed whatsoever but, when we get a truly certified product in hand, it is nice.  Today, we are looking at the Secure Data SecureDrive KP …

Data compromise through hacking, malware and ransomware worldwide has become the most lucrative occupation.  Threat actors  can attack data systems and PCs  in an instant with proven total anonymity, wreaking havoc at the personal, business and corporate level with little chance of ever being caught.  We might be so bold as to say that each and every one of us …

CF Express Type B cards have had the fortune of enhanced visibility as of late, their performance becoming the sweet spot for many new digital and video cameras that can take advantage of their data transfer speeds. Before the newest Type B version, most enthusiasts had never even imagined transfer cards faster than that of a SD card that could …

We absolutely love industry firsts and the Transcend RDE2 CF Express Type B Card Reader is just that!  For us, it is all about speed and, at least up until this card reader, the ONLY WAY to achieve full data transfer speeds from a CF Express Type B card was through Thunderbolt 3.  The trade-off to that speed is that …

Many may not know this but I have been a police officer for the past 25 years, in addition to running Essentially Tech Media, The SSD Review and Technology X.  Many will be very surprised at reading this, most of whom I have known for years but never mentioned such.  I have never mixed the two businesses. I understand data …

Portable storage has come a long way.  As much as I am not going to give my age away by mentioning rather large bulletproof hard drive contained external SSDs, being able to throw a portable SSD in your pocket, much less one that is capable of storing hundreds of thousands of pictures, songs or thousands of movies, is impressive.  Such …

Oh my.  Having been involved in the flash industry since 2007, I can honestly say I never thought I would have in my hands what I have today….an 8TB external SSD that is powered by only its Thunderbolt 3 data cable  and is 4″ long by 1.75″ wide by 1/2 thick.  It can move data at speeds up to 2.7GB/s.  …
