So this is our third report on a KIOXIA retail SSD and the same thing seems hitting me hard. This SSD is not available ‘officially’ through KIOXIA retail sales as of yet. We can find availability of it on Amazon (which is a great thing) but one needs to be careful as this may be from an out of country source.
I have no difficulty disclosing right off that our report on the newest KIOXIA Exceria Pro G2 is one of our top Gen5 SSDs tested to date. The unfortunate reality, however, is that KIOXIA has chosen to restrict their sales of ‘retail’ SSDs to markets outside the USA. Still… a great read and great news for our international readers that have this SSD available locally. And of course, it does have limited availability through alternate channels which is at least a bit encouraging.
The KIOXIA Exceria Pro G2 is a PCIe 5.0 (Gen5) four lane (x4) M.2 SSD that is available in the 2280 (22mm wide x 80mm long) form factor and operates on the latest NVM Express 2.0d SSD operating protocol. This SSD is available in capacities 1, 2 and 4TB and speaks to varying performance depending on size. The 2TB version we have in hand reaches 14.9GB/s read and 13.4GB/s write with up to just over 2000K IOPS, according to listed specifications.
This is a premium SSD and fully targeted at the enthusiast and small business market, with the unfortunate reality of NAND pricing not expected to drop anytime soon. It speaks to endurance of 600TBW for the 1TB, 1200TBW for the 2TB and 2400 for the 4TB capacity. It also comes with a 5-year limited warranty.
The Exceria Pro G2 is a single-sided SSD which makes it ideal for laptops and ultrabooks, and the branding is constructed to provide thermal dissipation of the component heat.
This SSD contains the Silicon Motion SM2508 Gen5 8-channel NVMe SSD controller built on the TSMC 6nm footprint, along with a single piece of 2048MB LPDDR4X-4266 DRAM cache and two pieces of KIOXIA BiCS8 218-layer TLC NAND flash memory.
At the time of this report, this SSD could be found at Amazon USA in the 2TB capacity for $849US. Checking European Amazon sites, it appears to average $229US for the 1TB, $617US for the 2TB and $1377US for the 4TB version. Let’s check out the Exceria Pro G2 performance.
