ProGrade Digital PG10 USB4 4TB Portable SSD Review

So… We seem to have a bunch of new high-end gear in hand and that is thanks to ProGrade Digital who sent over just a bit more than we expected.  If you are a camera or video professional, or enthusiast as I happen to be, finding this on the doorstep is simply Christmas.  Everything is Thunderbolt 4/USB 4 in some way and the little extra work I may have presenting this to my readers properly pales in comparison to the time I will save with this new ProGrade 4.0 setup on my PC .

We first reviewed the ProGrade Digital Pro Thunderbolt 4 Hub and its readers and that report can be found here.  Our last report examined the compact USB4 Mini 2TB SSD and that report can be found here.

Today, we will be looking at what you see on the top of that pile; the ProGrade Digital PG10 4TB USB4 External SSD and I must admit, it fits into the entire ProGrade 4.0 system like a glove. That would be it beneath the Prograde Thunderbolt 4 Hub as you see in this picture below:

And this would be as one sees it from the back…  This external SSD connects to the PG20 Pro Hub via a rather long 32″ included certified USB4 (40Gbps) ProGrade branded cable.

The ProGrade Digital PG10 4TB USB4 External SSD is available in 2, 4 and 8TB capacities and capable of read and write speeds up to 2500MB/s. I wondered what the white rectangle was meant to signify and amusingly thought it resembled a smartphone charging pad. Simplicity is perhaps the best approach; it is for an avery label to organize several SSDs.

Included with the SSD is a rugged carrying case that secures both the PG10 and its USB4 cable.  The PG10 itself has a grey solid unibody construction which prevents reviewers such as myself from getting a look at the internal components.

This SSD also contains a patented metal base which has become the trademark of ProGrade Digital.  This allows for perfect connection of components, as shown in the photo above, or combining this with the included adhesive contained metal plate for perfect placement anywhere.

The ProGrade Digital PG10 USB4 Portable SSD requires only 15w of power which is supplied through its data cable.  There is a ‘power sensing’ LED, as shown to the left of the Type-C port in the photo above, that glows green when there is 15w power and yellow if power falls below that.

Checking Amazon, we can see pricing for the PG10 at $399 (2TB), $799 (4TB and $1399 (8TB) which matches that of the ProGrade website itself. and it comes with a 3-year limited warranty.  Let’s get to some metrics!
