SANDISK SSD DASHBOARD
With the new SanDisk Extreme pro SSD family comes a brand new SanDisk SSD Dashboard that is compatible with all SanDisk SSDs. It can be downloaded here. As much as the Dashboard has similar qualities to that of other manufacturers software, SanDisk has included a few tricks that we never expected.
The opening screen provides details as well as health of your SanDisk SSD. You might notice that our Extreme Pro firmware version starts with the lettering X210. From here, you can select separate menu items to include Performance, Tools, Settings and help.
The Performance screen is unique and unlike anything we have seen in other similar products yet. Rather than allowing the opportunity to test your SSD, it maintains a steady log of performance speeds utilized while the SSD operates. In our example here, we are doing an AS SSD throughput benchmark and can see the same results being recorded in the SanDisk Dashboard Performance Monitor.
The Tools Screen provides full identification of the SSD and it’s SMART attributes, the system configuration, as well as providing for firmware updates and a secure erase of the drive. Erasing the drive can be done on the go and does not require any system reboot, although one will have to initialize, format and provide a logical drive letter for the newly erased drive, once complete.
Lastly, we have the settings screen that provides for starting the SanDisk SSD Dashboard on startup, as well as turning off Windows write-cache buffer flushing.
Crystal Disk Info is a great tool for displaying the characteristics and health of storage devices. It displays everything from temperatures, to the number of hours the device has been powered, and even to the extent of informing you of the firmware of the device.
Although many of the SMART attributes are vendor specific, we can monitor many of the key values such as Total Host Reads and Writes.
