Super Talent USB 3.0 SuperCrypt – SSD in Disguise – Vantage & File Copy

The SSD Review uses benchmark software called PCMark Vantage x64 HDD Suite to create testing scenarios that might be used in the typical user experience. There are eight tests in the suite, all of which record the speed of data movement in MB/s. The simulations are as follows:

  • Windows Defender In Use
  • Streaming Data from storage in games such as Alan Wake which allows for massive worlds and riveting non-stop action
  • Importing digital photos into Windows Photo Gallery
  • Staring the Vista Operating System
  • Home Video editing with Movie maker which can be very time consuming
  • Media Center which can handle video recording, time shifting and streaming from Windows media center to an extender such as XBox
  • Cataloging a music library
  • Starting applications

All Vantage Suite tests were performed 3 times to ensure consistency of marks and when this was confirmed, the highest scores were used.

FILE COPY

At one time or another, we have all experienced the slow performance of a flash drive. We thought that a simple file copy test of random data from one location to another on the respective drive would be a great indicator of its performance. Were we in for a shock!?! The sample storage media utilized included the SuperCrypt 64Gb flash Drive, Crucial 64GB C300 SATA 3 SSD, Imation 128GB SATA2 SSD, Samsung 1.5TB HDD and then we expected to use only one other flash drive. Initial results of this flash were so slow that we decided use another flash drive for performance verification. There is still a drastic difference between these flash drives which may be the result of use over such a long period of time. Lets take a look at the results.

There are a few interesting things about this chart, the first of which is the Sony flash drive taking some 20 minutes and 27 seconds to download 2.93GB of random files. We don’t really want to draw a comparison to the SuperCrypt but that is 27 times longer. It also took 4 minutes and 58 seconds to delete the data whereas it was next to instantaneous on the SuperCrypt. Another interesting occurrence was the fact that the fastest drive for this test was the Imation where the SATA3 Crucial C300 ranked 3rd overall. We found it necessary to repeat the results and the end result was again similar. Lets take one last look at the SuperCrypt in action against the Kingston Data Traveller. We think you will agree that the absolute speed of the SuperCrypt is amazing!
