REPORT SUMMARY AND FINAL THOUGHTS
The KIOXIA CD9P-R is a Gen5 1DWPD data center SSD that could very well become the default choice for organizations seeking a read-intensive storage solution. While several competing SSDs may advertise higher peak performance figures on paper, raw specifications rarely tell the full story. Beyond benchmark numbers lies a level of balance, efficiency, and real-world optimization that discerning industry professionals will immediately recognize and appreciate.
Take another close look at the charts… all of them. One characteristic of the KIOXIA CD9P-R stands out more clearly than with any SSD we’ve tested to date: its exceptional steady-state consistency. Once the drive settles into steady-state operation, its performance remains remarkably stable across virtually every workload we evaluated. Whether that consistency ultimately translates into superior long-term endurance or reliability remains to be seen, but the potential is certainly there. This behavior was immediately evident beginning with the 128K sequential write test.
A direct comparison between the KIOXIA CD9P-R and the Micron 7600 MAX further highlights this point. In several tests,, particularly the 128K sequential write and 4K 50/50 workloads, the Micron 7600 MAX’s performance curve is nearly hidden behind that of the CD9P-R because the results are so closely matched. That is especially impressive considering the Micron 7600 MAX is a premium 3DWPD enterprise SSD, while the CD9P-R is positioned as a 1DWPD solution. That alone speaks volumes about KIOXIA’s engineering.
And that’s before mentioning that the KIOXIA CD9P-R delivered the highest sequential read speed we’ve recorded from any non-compressible SSD to date, reaching an impressive 15GB/s. An easy Editor’s Choice award. Outstanding work, KIOXIA.
