Delkin Devices 64GB, 128GB ands 256GB Power and Prime CFexpress Type B Cards Reviewed – Great Sustained Speeds at Low Temps

DELKIN DEVICES POWER 256GB CFEXPRESS TYPE B CARD

The Delkin Devices Power 256GB CFexpress Type B card has listed specifications of 1730MB/s read a 1540MB/s write and has not received Delkin’s newest firmware optimization just yet. We spoke to the manufacturer with respect to this and they stated that the card still maintains sufficient performance for today’s top media devices.

Although not advertised, we tested this card for both sustained write performance and also monitored the temperature during this test.  The highest temperature this card reached was 56°C and its sustained right performance was 370MB/s.

This is a significant drop from the two prior updated cards and Delkin Devices stated that transitioning each capacity was a rather detailed process to which this card would be next.

CRYSTAL DISK INFO VER. 8.3.1

Crystal Disk Info is a great tool for displaying the characteristics and health of storage devices. It displays everything from temperatures, the number of hours the device has been powered, and even to the extent of informing you of the firmware of the device.

ATTO DISK BENCHMARK VER. 3.05

ATTO Disk Benchmark is perhaps one of the oldest benchmarks going and is definitely the main staple for manufacturer performance specifications. ATTO uses RAW or compressible data and, for our benchmarks, we use a set length of 256mb and test both the read and write performance of various transfer sizes ranging from 512b to 65mb. Manufacturers prefer this method of testing as it deals with raw (compressible) data rather than random (includes incompressible data) which, although more realistic, results in lower performance results.

CRYSTAL DISK BENCHMARK VER. 7. 0.0 X64

Crystal Disk Benchmark is used to measure read and write performance through sampling of random data which is, for the most part, incompressible. Performance is virtually identical, regardless of data sample so we have included only that using random data samples.

ANVIL STORAGE UTILITIES PROFESSIONAL

Anvil’s Storage Utilities (ASU) are the most complete test bed available for the solid state drive today. The benchmark displays test results for, not only throughput but also, IOPS and Disk Access Times. Not only does it have a preset SSD benchmark, but also, it has included such things as endurance testing and threaded I/O read, write and mixed tests, all of which are very simple to understand and use in our benchmark testing.

AJA VIDEO SYSTEM DISK TEST

The AJA Video Systems Disk Test is relatively new to our testing and tests the transfer speed of video files with different resolutions and Codec.

TxBENCH

TxBench is one of our newly discovered benchmarks that we works much the same as Crystal Diskmark, but with several other features.  Advanced load bench-marking can be configured, as well as full drive information and data erasing via secure erase, enhanced secure erase, TRIM and overwriting.  Simply click on the title for a free copy.

When was this test done? I bought a 256 GB card on December 1st, 2020 and I’m wondering if mine hes been optimized. Is there any way to check this?

The company has yet to contact us with respect to their update, which they assured that they would. Our tests can be easily reproduced with connection to a 10Gbps (1GB/s) Type-C connection from your reader to the computer if you have such a reader. Simply create a 15GB folder of video (movies) and copy it to the CFExpress Card. From there, create a new folder on the card and copy the media folder to the new folder. When you see the graphic of it copying, hit advanced. If it is the original card, the transfer will drop to below 300MB/s. If it is new, it will remain around 1GB/s (0r 1400MB/s if you are using a Thunderbolt 3 system as we do).
