PCMARK 10 FULL SYSTEM STORAGE BENCHMARK
PCMark 10 Storage Benchmarks produce an overall score as a measure of drive performance. Comparing devices is as simple as comparing scores. The tests also measure and report the bandwidth and average access time performance for the drive. Each test uses traces recorded while performing real-world tasks such as booting Windows 10, starting applications such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, working with applications such as Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, and copying several large files and many small files.
It all starts here. The Silicon Motion SM2504XT DRAMless engineering sample SSD placed 10th in our Top 10 SSDs ever tested on this benchmark. No DRAMless SSD has ever surpassed that and several DRAM-based SSDs have fallen behind as well.
PCMARK 10 QUICK SYSTEM STORAGE BENCHMARK
The Quick System Drive Benchmark is a subset of the Full test and is more representative of typical daily usage to show what would be expected regarding hybrid SSD performance on a day-to-day basis.
The SM2504XT trailed a bit in the Quick System Drive Benchmark of PCMark 10 but still had a respectable showing placing ahead of DRAM-based SSDs.
TRUE DATA TESTING
For our True Data Testing, we simply loaded 15GB video, music, photo and OS files onto the Silicon Motion SM2504XT engineering sample Gen5 2TB SSD and copied the data to a new folder on that same disk.
The SM2504 once again placed Top 10 ahead of some very respectable DRAM-based SSDs
PASSMARK PERFORMANCE TEST
We thought we might add a few extras in our report today, PassMark Performance Test DiskMark component being a nice addition. This software tests sequential reads and writes, along with IOPS and compares the result with millions of other SSDs worldwide. We might suggest being in the 99th percentile of all SSDs tested was a nice result.
The SM2504XT placed just outside of the Top 10 in our PCMark DiskBench software which was expectd as top performance is 11GB/s vice 14GB/s exhiibited by most SSDs ahead in this benchmark.
FINAL FANTASY XIV: ENDWALKER BENCHMARK
The Final Fantasy Benchmark is a new tool in our arsenal and geared specifically to the gamer. The software is installed directly on the SSD and the SSD tested, providing and end result of FPS and scene transition times.
Game load time testing for the Silicon Motion SM2504XT DRAMless Gen5 engineering sample SSD came in at 5.757 seconds, eighth of all SSDs tested to date.
Curious as to whether this SSD would be a good fit for one of the external USB5 enclosures currently on the market sold by OWC and Acasis. Interesting to see if there are notable differences between the PC and Mac USB5 ports in terms of performance.
