3D MARK STORAGE GAMING BENCHMARK
UL Solutions has created a new storage gaming benchmark that we will start to use as new SSDs come in. The 3DMark Storage Benchmark DLC extends 3DMark Advanced Edition with a dedicated component test for measuring the gaming performance of SSDs and other storage hardware. It supports all the latest storage technologies and tests practical, real-world gaming performance for activities such as loading games, saving progress, installing game files, and recording gameplay video streams.
The KIOXIA Exceria Pro G2 Gen5 2TB SSD did great with 7083 total points, placing it 4th of all SSDs tested to date.
3D MARK MS DIRECT STORAGE FEATURE TEST
As our KIOXIA Exceria Pro G2 TB SSD is MS DirectStorage compatible, we thought we might take advantage of the 3DMark DirectStorage Feature Test and see how this SSD fared. MS DirectStorage, in very basic terms, allows direct transfer of data from your SSD storage directly to your GPU, eliminating its historical necessary passage from the SSD through the CPU to RAM, back through the CPU and finally to the GPU VRAM. This is, for the most part at this time, intended on faster game load times, reducing CPU overhead and providing more detailed graphics.
In our testing, data transfer achieved a 144.8% faster transfer of data than with MS DirectStorage disabled.
REPORT ANALYSIS AND FINAL THOUGHTS
The KIOXIA Exceria Pro G2 Gen5 2TB is one of the best SSDs we have tested to date… and so it should be. Not only is it a high-end composition which contains its own DRAM cache chip, but also, it is paired with KIOXIA 218-layer BiCS8 TLC NAND flash memory and Silicon Motion’s award winning SM2508 Gen5 8-channel NVMe SSD controller.
The KIOXIA Exceria Pro G2 provided performance results of over 14GB/s read and 12.5GB/s write, along with 1970K IOPS, but more importantly, its performance was consistent through our full test regimen. Something I personally like is seeing a very strong low random result and 467MB/s for low Q1T1 write performance is solid.
Pricing…is as it is with the price of NAND flash memory these days and we cannot discredit the manufacturer for such in our ratings. Pricing has hit every SSD price on the market and has more than doubled the price of SSDs typically. Not only does the memory shortage hit the consumer, but it limits what manufacturers will market, the memory the components they may implement right down the capacity that we receive for review. This can be rather unfortunate as we like to review the highest performing capacity and that simply may no longer be feasible for companies.
In any case, the KIOXIA Exceria Pro G2 is deserving of our Editor’s Choice Award!
