Corsair MP700 PCIe 5.0 2TB NVMe SSD Review – Gen 5 Makes its Storage Claim to Fame

3D MARK STORAGE GAMING BENCHMARK

UL Solutions has created a new storage gaming benchmark that we will start to use as new SSDs come in. The 3DMark Storage Benchmark DLC extends 3DMark Advanced Edition with a dedicated component test for measuring the gaming performance of SSDs and other storage hardware. It supports all the latest storage technologies and tests practical, real-world gaming performance for activities such as loading games, saving progress, installing game files, and recording gameplay video streams.

As expected, our only two Gen 5 SSD tests would top 3DMark performance and be very similar in result.

REPORT ANALYSIS AND FINAL THOUGHTS

The Corsair MP700 is our first retail sample of the PCIe 5.0 SSD and its vastly increased performance.  10GB/s is flat out speedy, especially when you combine that with 1.7 million IOPS, something we had never reached prior.  With this performance comes heat and we spoke of this at the beginning of this report.

This SSD may suffice with a passive heatsink in normal use but if it is going to be pushed whatsoever, it will require an active fan-based heatsink to control the drives temperature. Even with a heatsink, we could still push it hard enough to get it up to 65°, but not high enough to experience any throttling.

The release of the Corsair MP700 Gen 5 2TB NVMe SSD is a great entry into the SSD market and pricing at $289.99 with a 5-year limited warranty is what we might expect, although appears a bit low in comparison to the Gigabyte Aorus 10000 price tag of $339.99.  We will update this report as more information becomes available and look forward to the Corsair MP700 public release.  Gold Seal.

The inclusion of PCIe Gen 5 SSDs with Gen 4 SSDs may make sense for now, but at some point they need separation…!
