REPORT SUMMARY AND FINAL THOUGHTS
The SanDisk Professional PRO-G40 is marketed as a ‘dual-mode’ SSD with listed top performance of 2700MB/s read and 1900MB/s write data transfer speeds, however, we have done significantly better than these rather conservative specs. Our testing demonstrates speeds of 3118MB/s read and 2657MB/s write which is probably the best way to catch out attention…especially when this is the best ThunderBolt 3 speeds we have seen to date. Conversely, this device still performs very well as a USB 3.2 device with speeds of 1090MB/s read a 1070MB/s write.
The grey anodized aluminum and silicone IP68 rated exterior with the reinforced Type-C port of this SanDisk Professional PRO-G40 Portable SSD is beyond reproach. It is an amazing build. Its performance coupled with a limited 5-year warranty simply makes things all that much better. The rather high price of the PRO-G40 is as can be expected for what SanDisk hopes is the best in the business. The only way we think SanDisk could have improved things would have been with a longer Type-C connector. Editor’s Choice!
