CRYSTAL DISK BENCHMARK VER. 8.0.4 x64
Crystal Disk Benchmark is used to measure read and write performance through sampling of random data which is, for the most part, incompressible. Performance is virtually identical, regardless of data sample so we have included only that using random data samples.
THROUGHPUT
IOPS
TxBench is one of our newly discovered benchmarks that we works much the same as Crystal DiskMark, but with several other features. Advanced load benchmarking can be configured, as well as full drive information and data erasing via secure erase, enhanced secure erase, TRIM and overwriting. ANVIL STORAGE UTILITIES PROFESSIONAL
Anvil’s Storage Utilities (ASU) are the most complete test bed available for the solid state drive today. The benchmark displays test results for, not only throughput but also, IOPS and Disk Access Times. Not only does it have a preset SSD benchmark, but also, it has included such things as endurance testing and threaded I/O read, write and mixed tests, all of which are very simple to understand and use in our benchmark testing.
SUSTAINED WRITE PERFORMANCE
In this benchmark, we created a 391GB 8K file and transfered it onto the Samsung P9 in order to validate its sustained performance.
Our transfer test validated that the entire file was transfered at a sustained rate of 2GB/s which is well above the minimum required speed necessary for saving video directly from a video camera.
REPORT SUMMARY AND FINAL THOUGHTS
There have been a few similar portable SSDs released in the past few years that provided USB4 … or even Thunderbolt 5 top speeds. Our reviews of the SanDisk Extreme Pro, ProGrade Mini, ProGrade PG10, LaCie Rugged SSD4, and LaCie Rugged SSD5 are but a few. In fact… the LaCie SSD 5 even hits speeds of 6GB/s. Where the Samsung P9 USB4 2TB Portable SSD stands out however, is in its incredible sustained write performance and this translates into task efficiency. Data transfer speeds of 4GB/s are great for short transfers but sustained write performance of 2GB/s or higher is simply gold in the media storage space.
Couple this with Samsungs reputation, a very well thought out Samsung Magician SSD software, as well as 256-bit AES hardware encryption, password protection, secure erase, SSD autherntication and many other features and the Samsung P9 USB4 SSD is very deserving of our Editor’s Choice, even in these times of high NAND pricing.
