Eurocom Corporation, Canada’s premier manufacturer of Desktop ReplacementTM notebooks and all-in-one PCs, is announcing that they have begun shipping their latest Armadillo Ultrabook featuring the world’s largest capacity mSATA SSD — the Samsung 840 EVO 1TB mSATA SSD. The latest Armadillo Ultrabook features both a standard 7mm drive bay and an mSATA slot, creating the possibility of up to 2 TB of high-quality storage.
The 14″ Eurocom Armadillo offers the convenience of a tablet and the capacity of a laptop in one computing solution, and with up to 9 hours of battery life you can leave the power cord behind. The Armadillo weighs a mere 2 kg and is only 22 mm thick, making it extremely easy to carry virtually anywhere.
The Samsung 840 EVO 1TB mSATA SSD features Samsung’s advanced 128 gigabit (Gb) NAND flash memory that is based on their latest 10nm-class process technology. At a thickness of only 3.85mm and weight of 8.5 grams, the 840 EVO 1TB mSATA SSD is only 40% of the thickness and 1/12th the weight of a standard HDD.
According to Mark Bialic, Eurocom’s President, “This is the largest and fastest and smallest removable storage device available on the market and we are happy to offer it to our customers in their new, custom built Eurocom system.” The 1TB Samsung 840 EVO mSATA will be available in all Eurocom models that support mSATA storage devices.
The Samsung 1TB 840 EVO mSATA SSD features Samsung’s proprietary MEX NAND controller, along with 19nm Samsung TLC NAND flash modules and a 1GB DRAM cache. Sequential read and write speeds for the 1TB 840 EVO mSATA SSD are stated (by Samsung) as 540 MB/s and 520 MB/s; respectively. Random 4K reads are stated as 98,000 IOPS, while random 4K writes are stated as 90,000 IOPS.
Eurocom’s Armadillo Ultrabook features a 14″ LCD backlit display and an Intel Core i7-4500U mobile processor clocked at 1.8GHz, and up to 3.0GHz in turbo mode. The Armadillo also features Intel HD Graphics 4400; up to 1.7GB with Intel Dynamic Memory Technology. It can also accept up to 16GB of DDR3L-1600 memory with both memory sockets populated. In addition to the two previously-mentioned storage bays, the Armadillo also sports a 6-in-1 card reader slot, 2 X USB 3.0 ports, 1 X HDMI out port, 1 X RJ45/LAN port and standard headphone and microphone jacks. Battery life is stated as up to 510 minutes utilizing the Armadillo’s 4 Smart Lithium-ion cells, comprising a 44.6WH battery pack.
