Lexar Displays CFExpress True Gold, a New NM1090 Pro Gen5 SSD and Mystery Gen 5 SSD Release – Computex 2025 Flash Update

Having been in the flash review business since the beginning, we have seen so many companies come and go.  This morning at Computex we visited Lexar when I realized that they are one of the few companies that we have covered consistently for more than 14 years.  And would you believe that we were in for a bit of a surprise that even the booth reps were a bit hesitant to release any information for.

Before we get to that however, let’s take a look at a few of the great products they had on display.  CFExpress.  Would you ever have thought we would be seeing CFExpress cards capable of up to 3.7GB/s speeds and 4TB capacities?  This still amazes me each and every time I pull my CFExpress card on my camera.

Left to right in this photo are the Lexar Professional Diamond 1TB CFExpress Type-B 4.0 card capable of up to an industry high 3700MB/s read and 3400MB/s write with VPG400 certificaton to guarantee smooth 8K video recording.  Just right of that is what we believe to be the largest and fastest CFExpress Type-A card in the industry, the Lexar Professional  Gold CFExpress-A 1TB card capable of speeds up to 1800MB/s read and 1600MB/s write.

While that Lexar Professional 1TB Silver 4.0 Card is capable of speeds up to 3.6GB/s read and 3GB/s write, true gold is what we see on the far right.  It is the Lexar Professional Gold 4.0 Type B Memory card available in up to a 4TB capacity and with speeds of 3.6GB/s read and 3.3GB/s write with a sustained write speed of 3GB/s.  Let’s not forget that all of these cards come with a limited lifetime warranty.

Also new for the Lexar name is their Lexar Professional Gold NM1090 Gen5 SSD which is capable of 14GB/s read and 13GB/s write and contains  the ever popular SIlicon Motion SMI 2508 8-channel 6nm SSD controller.  While this is the smallest footprint for an SSD controller on the market right now, wait for it though as the Phison E28 also has the same footprint and will be released soon enough.  And what is this?

So we happened to notice sitting in the corner an empty box for an unheard of Lexar Ares Pro Gen 5 SSD capable of up to 14GB/s read and write.  We asked around and even had the box removed but nobody could explain what SSD this was and, more importantly, why it was not on display.

Stay tuned to The SSD Review as we expect to have some first hand coverage posted soon enough!  Who knows…. maybe we will even reveal the New Ares Pro!
