Samsung PM800 128GB mSATA SSD Review – Crystal Diskmark and AS SSD Testing

CRYSTAL DISKMARK X64 VER 3.0

Crystal confirms our ATTO benchmarks and goes one step further by showing the excellent and all important low 4kb random write transfer speed of 52MB/s.  I wonder how this will fare against the Intel 310 mSATA SSD we reviewed a few weeks back?

AS SSD DISK BENCHMARK VER. 1.5

AS SSD Disk Benchmark is perhaps the only benchmark program that was created for solid state drives.

blankblankAS SSD provides us with our first look at things such as IOPS and Disk Access Time.  Disk Access time is the biggest reason that we see such a performance improvement in our movement to SSD from the hard drive.  A hard drive has an access time of about 9ms which is considerable slower and, unlike the SSD which moves information similar to oil moving through a pipeline, the HDD can only pick up so much and move it in packets, creating the need to return to get the rest of the file.

AS SSD FILE COPY

AS SSD File Copy is a relatively new benchmark included in the software and an ideal opportunity to run a quick comparison against the only other new generation mSATA SSD released to date, the Intel 80GB mSATA SSD.  We know from our earlier review of the Intel that its write speeds are roughly 2+ times slower so lets see how that translates here.

The difference between the Intel and the Samsung are pretty big.  Lets give Intel credit though as they were the first to introduce their own mSATA and theirs is available for consumer purchase whereas the Samsung is not…as of yet anyway.
