BIWIN Introduces a Gen 5 SSD World First – Computex 2025 Flash Update

It is not uncommon for products to be introduced at CES, ceBit, Flash Memory Summit or Computex that never see the light of day.  This is especially so in the SSD world where products could, as well, not hit the consumer market for years.  What is a complete shock, as one who reports on flash media, is when the person you are meeting with at Computex says, “I have something for you and you may be the first in the world to have it in hand.”  Such is the case with BIWIN and our visit with Alex Ruedinger at Computex 2025 this morning!

As a bit of background first and foremost, our friendship with Alex goes back some time, 12 years we think in fact.  That is how we got to know BIWIN and exactly how we got to do reviews on such SSDs as the Predator GM9000 Gen5, BIWIN Black Opal NV7400, and Acer FA200 Gen4  in recent days.  Although not a common name to many, BIWIN has been around for some time, 2010 in fact, and industry experts know BIWIN as they are the official licensee for popular brands such as Acer and HP.

This morning Alex handed me a brand new retail sample of the BIWIN X570 Gen5 SSD based on the Maxiotech MAP1806a 8-channel DRAMless NVMe controller and capable of running at up to 3600GT/s.  The memory on this SSD is Micron B58R TLC 232-layer Fortis NAND flash memory. This is our sample with the branding sticker ripped off right away.

This controller will be Maxio’s first to reach speeds of 14500MB/s read and 11000MB/s write data throughput and will be available in capacities up to 4TB with a single sided design.  Can this run cool enough for a laptop at those speeds?  Stay tuned as we have one in hand and will be reviewing it on our return to Canada.

Another SSD that we will be reviewing on return is the BIWIN X570 Pro Gen 5 SSD. Based on the Silicon Motion SM2508 8-channel Gen 5 SSD controller, this SSD relies on 232-layer 3D TLC NAND flash memory and contains a LPDDR4 cache memory chip to enable speeds up to 14GB/s read and 13GB/s write.

Great start to a great Computex 2025!
