REPORT SUMMARY AND FINAL THOUGHTS
We began this report by describing Exascend as a “boutique” SSD manufacturer, and it’s worth expanding on what we meant by that. A boutique company focuses on a specialized niche, builds a strong brand identity, and delivers products tailored to the unique requirements of its customers. Exascend embodies that philosophy through its vertically integrated approach to design and manufacturing. From wafer processing and NAND packaging to controller firmware development and final assembly, the company oversees virtually every stage of production. This level of control allows Exascend to customize its SSD solutions to meet the exact performance, endurance, and reliability requirements of each customer, rather than offering a one-size-fits-all product line.
The Exascend PD5 Gen5 Enterprise SSD performed exceptionally well throughout our evaluation, consistently meeting or exceeding its published specifications. One characteristic that became increasingly apparent during testing was its outstanding write IOPS performance. This was first evident in our 4K random write testing, where the PD5 outperformed many competing enterprise SSDs, and it continued to demonstrate that strength in our 8K workload results as well. The drive’s ability to maintain such strong random write performance makes it particularly well-suited to demanding enterprise environments.
Our decision to present the Exascend PD5 with The SSD Review Editor’s Choice Award reflects more than just benchmark numbers. Having the opportunity to tour Exascend’s manufacturing facilities, meet the engineering team, and witness the company’s vertically integrated design and production process firsthand gave us a unique appreciation for the expertise and passion behind the product. It is especially rewarding to see that commitment translate directly into a drive that delivers outstanding real-world performance and lives up to its enterprise-class ambitions.
