3D MARK STORAGE GAMING BENCHMARK
UL Solutions has created a new storage gaming benchmark that we will start to use as new SSDs come in. The 3DMark Storage Benchmark DLC extends 3DMark Advanced Edition with a dedicated component test for measuring the gaming performance of SSDs and other storage hardware. It supports all the latest storage technologies and tests practical, real-world gaming performance for activities such as loading games, saving progress, installing game files, and recording gameplay video streams.
The Longsys mSSD Gen4 1TB Engineering Sample SSD did fairly well with 4359 total points. This is not a ‘best of’ chart, but rather a chart which places the Longsys mSSD Gen4 1TB Engineering Sample SSD amongst its peers.
3D MARK MS DIRECT STORAGE FEATURE TEST
As our Longsys mSSD Gen4 1TB Engineering Sample SSD is MS DirectStorage compatible, we thought we might take advantage of the 3DMark DirectStorage Feature Test and see how this SSD fared. MS DirectStorage, in very basic terms, allows direct transfer of data from your SSD storage directly to your GPU, eliminating its historical necessary passage from the SSD through the CPU to RAM, back through the CPU and finally to the GPU VRAM. This is, for the most part at this time, intended on faster game load times, reducing CPU overhead and providing more detailed graphics.
In our testing, data transfer achieved a 156% faster transfer of data than with MS DirectStorage disabled.
REPORT ANALYSIS AND FINAL THOUGHTS
The concept of a single chip SSD design has been something that has arisen for some time in our manufacturer briefings. I can remember several years back bringing it as an idea for a single chip integrated motherboard SSD as a boot drive. Still… I never expected what has been shown in our testing today. This has carried things much further.
At 20mm x 30mm x 2mm, the Longsys mSSD is perhaps the smallest PCIe storage device available today. At speeds up to 7400MB/s read and 6500MB/s write with over 1 million IOPS, it is without a doubt the fastest storage medium available today for its size. Considering we can place 4TB of storage on that small chip, Longsys has achieved so much more. But there are so many extras here…
As the Longsys mSSD is a single chip design, it automatically speaks to such things as being dust, water and shockproof and something that we learned throughout our testing, this SSD is one of the coolest running Gen4 SSDs to date.
Taking it even further, Longsys has identified their ‘Office is Factory’ concept where the mSSD simply slips into M.2 2230, 2242 or 2280 form factor carriages, depending on installation needs, each of these also doubling as a heatsink for the SSD.
Lastly, this is much more than a concept. It is a product line open to manufacturers and Lexar has take the bull by the horns already with the Play X Gen4 SSD and AI Storage Core lines. Editor’s Choice!
