Anvil’s Storage Utilities (ASU) are the most complete test bed available for the solid state drive today. The benchmark displays test results for, not only throughput but also, IOPS and Disk Access Times. Not only does it have a preset SSD benchmark, but also, it has included such things as endurance testing and threaded I/O read, write and mixed tests, all of which are very simple to understand and use in our benchmark testing.

AJA VIDEO SYSTEM DISK TEST

The AJA Video Systems Disk Test is relatively new to our testing and tests the transfer speed of video files with different resolutions and Codec.

PCMARK 8 STORAGE 2.0

The SSD Review uses PCMark 8’s Storage test suite to create testing scenarios that might be used in the typical user experience. With 10 traces recorded from Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office and a selection of popular games, it covers some of the most popular light to heavy workloads. Unlike synthetic storage tests, the PCMark 8 Storage benchmark highlights real-world performance differences between storage devices. After an initial break-in cycle and three rounds of the testing, we are given a file score and bandwidth amount. The higher the score/bandwidth, the better the drive performs.

 

I had hoped this SSD would place just under the Optane drives which are a given but one still has to give credit to the Samsung 970 pro that just won’t let go of those top spots.  Still… strong showing.   In the end though, those that benchmark know this chart truly is a bit unfair as this SSD is the only on the chart being tested through AMD and not Intel. Typically, Intel result are about 100MB/s so one just has to wonder how this SSD might do in an Intel PCIe 4 system.

  1. Was the testing done in the CPU native NVMe port or the PCH connected NVMe port?

  2. Really what a nice product combination of all aspects required for a small technical component are featured in it in a well defined manner hats off for it.

  3. Review of these devices help to mention their capacity and power to use all the various set of features are discussed and covered under it.

  4. I t will be nice when there are more MPCIe 4.0 (Gen 4) NVMe SSD controllers other than the Phison with its PSE5016-E16. I have a feeling there is much more potential with the Gen 4 SSDs that we will see, hopefully in the very dear future, as everyone should already have their controllers out and being used, as they’ve had more than enough time for product development.
    In any case, I’m anxiously awaiting many more reviews of Gen 4 SSDs.

  5. I want to use this drive as a Windows boot drive but ALSO run a couple virtual machines on the same drive. Will WIndows performance suffer while the VMs are running?

  6. Can I use this drive in a PCIe Gen3 mobo?
