DapuStor Roealsen6 R6301 12.8TB Gen5 AIC SSD Review – A Media Professionals Dream at Unheard of 24GB/s Speeds

REPORT SUMMARY AND FINAL THOUGHTS

Dapustor’s ingenuity of creating a Gen5 x8 dual lane SSD that doesn’t need twice the power is very clever.  They have put together something that nobody else has, and its reach goes far beyond AI or cloud infrastructure.  We believe this is going to be a home run in the media environment.  When considering our test regimen, the R6301 is leaps and bounds ahead of every other SSD tested to date, regardless of whether it is sequential, random 4/8K or 50/50 and 70/30 mixed data testing.  The only hiccup we encountered with this SSD is that its listed spec of 30GB/s was a tad higher than our top 23.8GB.  But then again, we are still speaking of the fastest SSD wer have ever tested, and with a high of 3849K low 4K random read IOPS as well.

And it’s brand new… so new that you won’t find official specifications published anywhere yet, aside from this review and my brother Jon’s coverage over at Tweaktown. In fact, the “dual-lane architecture” R6301 isn’t even listed on the Dapustor website at the time of writing. But we have this…

On a personal note, I’d be more than happy to keep working with the Dapustor Roealsen6 R6301 Series Gen5 x8 enterprise SSD, especially to explore the efficiency gains it could bring to demanding media applications like Topaz Photo AI and DxO PhotoLab 6. Of course, this is far from a typical enthusiast M.2 SSD. With its dual x4 lane implementation delivering effectively double the throughput, it also requires proper active cooling to perform at its best.

Could this be the GOAT (Greatest of All Time) of PCIe 5.0 SSDs?  Editor’s Choice!
