Crystal Disk Benchmark is used to measure read and write performance through sampling of random data which is, for the most part, incompressible. Performance is virtually identical, regardless of data sample so we have included only that using random data samples.

SUSTAINED WRITE TESTING
For our sustained write test, we transferred an 8K video to the drive and watched until the performance dropped to the sustained write area. We can validate that this SSD does average an advertised 1.2MB/s sustained write, althgough it would have been nice if it were a bit of a smoother run.
REPORT SUMMARY AND FINAL THOUGHTS
There is alot of good to say with respect to the ProGrade Digital PG10.5 USB4 Mini 2TB Portable SSD Review. It’s compact design can’t be beat and it only became slightly warm in our testing. To get your hands on a 4TB version of a drive this size would be something else. It performed at its rated 4GB/s without difficulty and it is an absolutely wonderful addition to the ProGrade Digital 4.0 family.
In fact, if you put this ProGrade Mini 2TB SSD beside its arch rival Thunderbolt 4/5 and USB4 competitors, it is just about one of the smallest there is. Can you imagine the 4TB version?
On the plus side, ProGrade Digital has created a very high performing USB 4 portable SSD that fits into their Thunderbolt 4/USB4 family of peripherals very well. Conversely, it is a bit highly priced when comparing to the very similar Corsair EX400U and we are seeing it only on the ProGrade site at this time. Still… very worthy product that we will find use for on a daily basis. Gold Seal.
