Rocket XTRM-Q 16TB External Thunderbolt 3 SSD Review – Can an SSD Ever be Too Big?

TRUE DATA TESTING

For our True Data Testing, we simply loaded 15GB video, music, photo and OS files onto the Sabrent Rocket XTRM-Q 16TB External Aluminum SSD and copied the data to a new folder on that same disk. WE did a product comparison with other brands, as well as other interfaces in order to demonstrate the performance of the XTRM-Q.

The Sabrent Rocket XTRM-Q 16TB did very well in testing and seeing its data transfer speeds compared to other interfaces shows how far we have come since the days of USB 3.

REPORT SUMMARY AND FINAL THOUGHTS

The Sabrent Rocket XTRM-Q 16TB External SSD has been introduced for those in the media world that truly need this kind of space.  Marketing this in anything less than a Thunderbolt 3 design would have actually been a mistake as higher resolution media has a much larger footprint and takes that much more to move it from the SSD to memory when working with it. This kind of performance matches the higher resolution of the media that will be stored perfectly.

Watching the Rocket XTRM-Q 16TB SSD come to market definitely shows the success that Sabrent has had with their flash portfolio, and yes, they seem to be wagging their own tale, if you will.  We are pretty confident that nobody will be following in their footsteps with this release anytime soon.  Sabrent doesn’t stop there though.  In an effort to help those not familiar with RAID along, they have created additional videos on their product page for both Mac and Intel RAID configurations. 16TB of storage @ 2.8GB/s throughput… amazing.
