Crucial Announces MX100 SSD Family — Computex 2014 Update

Crucial, a division of Micron Technology and a leading producer of solid-state drive (SSDs) and DRAM modules, is announcing its new MX100 family of SSDs.  The Crucial MX100 offers unrelenting performance and one of the most complete feature sets available in a consumer-grade SSD, and at a low cost per GB.  The MX100 family are produced with Micron 16nm process NAND.

Utilizing Extreme Energy Efficiency technology, the MX100 is up to 89% more energy efficient than a conventional hard drive (HDD).  Power Loss Protection ensures that your data will still be preserved in the event of a power loss or interruption.

Crucial’s MX100 series offers best-in-class AES 256-bit hardware encryption, which is the same type of encryption used by banks and hospitals to protect critical data.  The MX100 meets TCG Opal 2.0, IEEE-1667, and Microsoft eDrive data security standards.  Crucial’s proprietary Native Write Acceleration technology spreads write tasks over several elements, significantly reducing write times.

Micron-engineered RAIN (redundant array of independent NAND) technology, which is an enterprise-level reliability function that is vastly superior to mere ECC (Error Correction Code) technology,  is also featured in the MX100 family of SSDs.  This feature protects your data at the component level, similar to RAID for multiple drives.  This is a feature that is rarely available in consumer-level SSDs.

With the prices this thing is going, it’s simply crushing the competition 🙂

Although it’s dissapointing, that they are not gonna offer 1TB version…

Give it time. They are not offering a 1TB version yet, but additions are often made
to product lineups down the road.

1TB is only available in M550. I think Crucial is trying to keep the segments, and not geared the MX100 towards enthusiasts or power users.
A solution would be to get two 512GB and put them into RAID 0.
