3D MARK STORAGE GAMING BENCHMARK
UL Solutions has created a new storage gaming benchmark that we will start to use as new SSDs come in. The 3DMark Storage Benchmark DLC extends 3DMark Advanced Edition with a dedicated component test for measuring the gaming performance of SSDs and other storage hardware. It supports all the latest storage technologies and tests practical, real-world gaming performance for activities such as loading games, saving progress, installing game files, and recording gameplay video streams.
At first glance, one might not think the Kingston G5 did very well, however, this is our Top 10 which means it did place number 10th overall the ssds we’ve tested to date. This is an excellent result
REPORT ANALYSIS AND FINAL THOUGHTS
The Kingston Fury Renegade G5 Gen5 2TB SSDS is a great example of how two components can work together. In this case, we are speaking of the newly popular SMI SM2508 SSD controller paired with KIOXIA BiCS8 218-layer 3D TLC NAND. The KFR G5 had no problems hitting throughput highs of 14.3GB/s and 1.9 million IOPS. It also ranked in the top five of six of our comparison benchmarks and we don’t see that from many SSDs, placing second in PassMark Diskmark and only bettered by the Samsung 9100 Gen5 SSD.
In addition to those good marks, the KFR G5 can be fine tuned with the freely available copy of the Kingston SSD Manager, software which, once installed, also contains access to a free copy of Acronis true Image cloning software to sweeten the pot just a bit more. This SSD not only comes with a 5-year warranty, but also free access to Kingston technical support if needed. Pricing is what we typically expect for a new release but we can foresee the price settling a bit in the near future.
