NINTENDO SWITCH 2 GAME DATA TRANSFER COMPARISON
For this test, the ADATA Premier Extreme microSD Express 256GB Memory Card is installed into the Switch 2 and game data is moved from the console to the card and then moved back to the console, both timings being measured and recorded. The size of the data being mmoved is 34.4GB.
NINTENDO SWITCH 2 GAME LOAD TIME COMPARISON
This benchmark entails transfering all game data to the storage card and measuring the time for the game to start, drawing data from that SDXC Express card.
MICROSDXC EXPRESS SUSTAINED WRITE COMPARISON
In order to obtain sustained write performance, an 85GB file is transferred from the PC to the microSDXC Express card via the SanDisk Dual Card SD Express Card Pro-Reader. By using this reader, data transfer was achieved while maintaining a suitable card temperature. The sustained write result of the ADATA 256GB Premier Extreme microSDXC card was determined to be 250MB/s.
This was the second highest of four cards tested.
REPORT SUMMARY AND FINAL THOUGHTS
It has taken a few years for SDXC Express cards to mature and Nintendo deserves much credit for their implementation of such. Nintendo Switch 2 will only work with SD Express Cards because of the speed used to move data to and from the card, which moves console gaming scene transition ahead leaps and bounds. The ADATA Premier Extreme is available in 256GB and 512GB capacities, comes with a lifetime warranty and provided performance highs of 827MB/s and 629MB/s.
The sheer speed of these cards is actually rather impressive. Typically when storage is moved up a notch, we might see it doubled traditionally where, in this instance, microSD cards are quadrupled. Consumers should be aware that microSD Express cards are backward compatible, but UHS-II cards are not forward compatible and will not work in the Nintendo Switch 2. Further, paying the high price for a microSD Express card to speed up older devices would be a waste of mmoney as equipment is only capable of its listed speeds. MicroSDXC Express will not increase the speed where it might seem so as the form factor is exactly the same and this card is compatible with older UHS-II devices.
