ScaleFlux CSD5320 Gen5 7.68TB E3.S Enterprise SSD Review – Data Compression Creates an Enterprise SSD Superpower

RANDOM PERFORMANCE BENCHMARKS

4K RANDOM WRITE/READ

We precondition our enterprise SSDs using 100% random 4K writes at QD256  for two drive fills. Performance data is recorded every second.  We track this data to monitor the enterprise SSDs transition to steady-state and to verify that steady-state conditions are achieved before initiating queue depth testing. Steady-state is established after a full drive fill and the average steady-state 4K random write performance is approximately 1039K IOPS.

The listed spec for low 4K random write IOPS is 430K while we received 375K in regular mode.  When tested with 2:1 compression, the Scaleflux CSD 5320 pulled off unheard of results of 1040K average write IOPS, almost 300MB/s higher than the next best Micron 9550.  What is most impressive here is the fact that its performance continued to climb with no drop whatsoever.

The listed spec for the Scaleflux CSD5320 Gen5 SSD is 3400K IOPS for sustained random read 4K IOPS during steady-state operation and our testing hit 3350K IOPS in 2:1 compression and 3232K IOPS with 1:1 compression..

4K 70/30

The CSD5320 realized a performance result average of 1851K in our 4K 70/30 profile which was an absolutely massive performance jump over all others.  While not using 2:1 compression, this SSD averaged 848K IOPS which is less than half of that.

4K 50/50

The CSD5320 pulled off an average performance result of 1530K IOPS through QD256-QD4096 with 2:1 compression, while it settled in less than half of that at 605K IOPS in normal mode.

Strange, could not find ANY information about the Future Storage FSSC21AD240M4 (and other capacities) online. Seems like it was just a prototype that you have. However, based on the SSD you have with Toshiba NAND, it is most likely to be equivalent to the Mushkin Chronos DX 240GB as it also used Toshiba NAND and even almost has the same circuit board layout!

That being said, SSDs had evolved a lot over the recent years with these new Gen5 SSDs and even soon, Gen6 SSDs!! The performance of the Scaleflux CSD5320 is just INSANE!!
