Nimbus Data Announces World’s Largest SSD at 100TB! – Powering Data-Driven Innovation!

Nimbus Data is announcing the ExaDrive® DC100 – the largest capacity of solid-state drive ever produced at 100TB!  This represents more than 3 X the capacity of the nearest competitors, and the ExaDrive DC100 also consumes 85% less power per terabyte (TB).  Nimbus Data’s innovations have reduced total cost of ownership per terabyte by 42% as compared to competitors’ enterprise SSDs, further advancing the adoption of flash memory in both cloud infrastructure and edge computing applications.

Nimbus has optimized the DC100 for capacity and efficiency, rather than just on speed.  The DC100 employs a patent-pending multiprocessor architecture that supports much greater density than legacy flash controllers.  Utilizing 3D NAND, the DC100 represents enough flash storage capacity for 20 million songs, 20,000 HD movies, or 2,000 iPhones worth of data, yet in a device small enough to stick in your back pocket.  A data center with a single rack of DC100 SSDs achieves over 100 petabytes of raw storage capacity, and the resultant reduction in power draw, cooling needs, and rack space reduces costs by 85% per terabyte, meaning that more workloads can be moved to flash storage, and at the lowest possible total cost of ownership.

blankAccording to Thomas Isakovich, CEO and founder of Nimbus Data, “As flash memory prices decline, capacity, energy efficiency, and density will become the critical drivers of cost reduction and competitive advantage.  The ExaDrive DC100 meets these challenges for both data center and edge applications, offering unmatched capacity in an ultra-low power design.”

blankBy constructing the ExaDrive DC100 on the same 3.5” form factor and SATA interface used by HDDs, it is plug-and-play compatible with literally hundreds of server and storage platforms.  The DC100’s miserly 0.1 watts/TB power draw and portability also make it an excellent choice for edge and IoT applications.  The DC100 is able to achieve random read speeds of up to 100,000 IOPS and sequential read speeds of up to 500MB/s.  The DC100’s equally balanced read/write performance makes it ideal for a wide variety of usage scenarios, including cloud infrastructure, big data, rich content and machine learning.

blankNimbus Data protects to the DC100 with a 5-year, unlimited endurance guarantee.  Nimbus has eliminated the often confusing drive-writes-per-day limitations, providing users with a reduction of hardware refresh cycles and costly support renewals, and greater peace of mind.  Embedded capacitors provide power loss protection in the event of an unanticipated power interruption.  The DC100 also features encryption, multiple ECC processors and a secure-erase option.  Nimbus is rating the DC100 for a mean time between failures (MTBF) of 2.5 million hours.

blankThe ExaDrive DC100 is being offered in both 50TB and 100TB versions.  Nimbus Data has qualified the DC100 in server and storage enclosures from major vendors.  Pricing is stated as being similar to current enterprise SSDs on a cost per terabyte basis, but offering 85% lower operating costs.  The ExaDrive DC series will have customers seeing a 42% cost per terabyte reduction over a 5-year period as compared to current enterprise SSDs.  This TCO advantages takes into account its superior endurance, balanced read/write performance, cooling savings, power savings, rack space savings and lower hardware refresh costs.  Nimbus is currently sampling the DC series to key strategic customers, and is expected to have general availability in the summer of 2018.
