Up bright and early this first day of CES 2026 Las Vegas with a bit of great news! KIOXIA has added a new entry into the client SSD market, their first since the Kioxia BG6. Our last KIOXIA client SSD review was way back in 2022 with the KIOXIA XG8 found here. Keep in mind this is a client SSD intended for commercial and consumer oem laptops which won’t be marketed on the consumer side by KIOXIA, but it is great news that we will be seeing this SSD soon enough in consumer available laptops.
The KIOXIA BG7 is a PCIe 4.0 (Gen 4) SSD that will be available in 2230, 2242 and 2280 form factors, and capacities including 256GB, 512GB, 1024GB and 2048GB. Performance is variable on size with highs of 7000MB/s read and 6400MB/s write and up to 1 million IOPS with a full description here:
The BG7 is a DRAMless SSD which uses a systems base memory (Host Memory Buffer) to increase and maintain speeds rather than utilizing an onboard DRAM cache chip. It is highlighted with KIOXIA’s own Gen 8 NAND flash memory and uses their innovative CBA (CMOS Bonded to Array) Technology.
A massive bonus with this newest BG7 compared to the former BG6 series client SSD is that it can achieve up to 67% better power efficiency in sequential write operations which is a simply massive jump in battery life.
“Storage for client computing applications must keep pace with consumer demand for ultramobility without compromise,” said Neville Ichhaporia, senior vice president and general manager of the SSD business unit, KIOXIA America, Inc. “The new KIOXIA BG7 Series delivers enhanced performance and power efficiency for end users while remaining economical for our PC OEM customers.”
The KIOXIA BG7 Series will debut at CES® 2026 and will be on display at the company’s exhibit room (Zeno 4710) on Level 4 of the Venetian® Meeting Center from January 6-8, 2026. Select PC OEM customers are evaluating samples now.
