Patriot Wildfire SATA 3 SSD Performance Testing – Unbelievable PCMark Vantage HDD Suite Results

PCMARK VANTAGE HDD SUITE

One thing that becomes readily apparent when we are running the synthetic benches is that they are just that; synthetic. Where the SandForce drives really excel is in the actual real world tasks, that utilize a variety of data.

In PCMark Vantage the data simply cannot be manipulated, and a result is provided based on the transfer speeds observed in eight simulated user activities. This is also a widely accepted opinion held by many reviewers and storage enthusiasts.

This benchmark uses both mixed read/write tests and is a good test for overall performance.

There are eight tests in all and the tests performed record the speed of data movement in MB/s to which they are then given a numerical score after all of the tests are complete. The simulations are as follows:

  • Windows Defender In Use
  • Streaming Data from storage in games such as Alan Wake which allows for massive worlds and riveting non-stop action
  • Importing digital photos into Windows Photo Gallery
  • Starting the Vista Operating System
  • Home Video editing with Movie Maker which can be very time consuming
  • Media Center which can handle video recording, time shifting and streaming from Windows media center to an extender such as XBox
  • Cataloging a music library
  • Starting applications

PATRIOT WILDFIRE X 8 IN RAID 0 VANTAGE TEST RESULTS

The eight Patriot Wildfire 120GB SSDs attached to the LSI 9265-8i 6Gbps MegaRAID card came out with an absolute incredible result of 134769 total Vantage points which has been unheard of in our testing with the LSI 9265-8i card as of yet.  To give you an idea what kind of speed this combination is capable of, Media Center testing in Vantage returned a high transfer speed of 1.16GB/s (yes thats gigabytes per second).  To run comparisons to our other Vantage SATA 3 testing is really unfair although the total points received by the newly released OCZ Revodrive 3×2 PCIe Card of 97798 points just has to be commended.

Here are the individual results, comparing the score that we attained with this array, and the array of 8 C300s in RAID 0 on the same controller. We also throw in the Revo 2×3 results for comparison. The result of  is just simply world-class performance. As you can see, the Wildfires pull ahead easily! These real world results simply gives credence to the excellent results we are seeing over a variety of synthetic benchmarks.
