3D MARK STORAGE GAMING BENCHMARK
UL Solutions has created a new storage gaming benchmark that we will start to use as new SSDs come in. The 3DMark Storage Benchmark DLC extends 3DMark Advanced Edition with a dedicated component test for measuring the gaming performance of SSDs and other storage hardware. It supports all the latest storage technologies and tests practical, real-world gaming performance for activities such as loading games, saving progress, installing game files, and recording gameplay video streams.
This chart DOES NOT depict the Top 10, but rather, where the Crucial P510 sits amongst similarly performing SSDs. We might suggest that placement amongst DRAM-based Gen5 SSDs is a good indication of the quality of this SSD.
REPORT ANALYSIS AND FINAL THOUGHTS
One might think the elephant in the room is that this is not the fastest SSD on the block but that’s the wrong approach with respect to the Crucial P510 Gen5 SSD. This SSD runs at Gen 5 speeds up to 10GB/s and it runs cooler than any other Gen 5 SSD we have had in our hands to date. That is a huge plus plus plus with respect to the P510 as we can now get a Gen5 SSD into a 2/3lb ultralight laptop and running at those beautiful Gen5 speeds. The unfortunate reality is that finding that laptop is extremely costly and not practical whatsoever.
As a media professional, I can tell you that getting a Crucial P510 Gen 5 SSD into a ultralight laptop would be somewhat of an amazing thing. The size of the laptop matters due to the extensive travel and always having it in hand. The speed of that SSD is paramount as so many require on demand use of such software as DXO Photo Lab and Topaz Photo AI which love to eat up CPU, RAM and storage resources when at work. The low power high speed Crucial P510 2TB SSD is a very welcome addition to the SSD and media professional community.
