Dapustor is a little known SSD manufacturing company that is based in China, was founded in 2016 and has a present workforce of over 400 members throughout the country. It’s forte is high-end enterprise solid-state drives, SOC, and edge computing-related products and it presently holds in excess of 156 patents, which is to say they aren’t just another SSD component assembly company. In fact, their Roealsen R6101 PCIe 5.0 Enterprise SSD contains a ‘home-grown’ and proprietary DP800 Gen5x4 16-channel dual-port NVMe SSD controller that right now holds just about the best 4K Steady-State Read IOPS one can get worldwide.
The R6100 series of Dapustor SSDs comprises of the R6101 version that we are testing today, along with a R6101C model that uses transparent compression and is capable of compression ratios of 1:1, 2:1 and 4:1, that display rather impressive performance progression. We will try to get one of the ‘C’ models in hand down the road and one can check out its specs [here]. The Dapustor R6101 is available in 1.92TB, 3.84TB, 7.68TB aand 15.36TB capacities and are only available in the U.2 2.5″ 15mm thick form factor shown in this report.
We have a note in with Dapustor with respect to specifics of the NAND used in this SSD, however, it seems to be held pretty close to the heart as the only information publicly available is that it is 3D eTLC NAND flash memory. The U.2 design of enterprise SSDs is pretty standard as we can see with these six 2.5″ enterprise SSDs below. They are of a two-piece black aluminum shell that protects the PCB and components with ribbing that allows for external heat dissipation. All contain some form of venting on the top and bottom to allow active cooling throughout when server installed.
The Dapustor R6101 has variable performance depending on capacity with highs of 14GB/s read, 11GB/s write and up to 3400K IOPS. It has a typical active power output of 18.5 watts. This is a one drive write per day (1-DWPD) device, as all 7.68TB enterprise SSDs are, has 2.5 million hours MTBF and comes with a standard 5-year limited warranty. Complete specs are shown here:
Dapustor R6100 series SSDs have thermal throttling, end-to-end data compression, Secure Boot, along with OCP 2.5 compatability. Supported operating systems include Ubuntu, VMWare ESXi, CentOS, RHEL, SLES, FreeBSD and Windows Server.
It is unfortunate that availability for the Dapustor Roealsen6 R6101 is so limited in the North American market as it has one of the best seq read speeds and the best 4K IOPS steady state read IOPS we have seen today. This of course translates to one of the best 8K read IOPS as well. This SSD seems to cry out for read-intensive workloads.
