The SSD Review Computex Taipei Update: Mach Xtreme Displays New JMicron SATA 3 SSD

One would always expect big moves by big companies but today we happened to stumble upon something just a bit unexpected.

You may remember some time ago we did a SSD review on the MX-DS ‘Sandforce Driven’ SSD which was introduced by a fairly new company called Mach Xtreme.

We met with Tomasz Swatowski, Marketing Manager of Mach Xtreme, this morning and quite frankly, we may have stumbled on the hidden GEM of Computex SSDs.

SATA 3 – THE DS, JET AND STARTER TURBO SSDS

To start things rolling, Tomasz showed us their up and coming SATA 3 line which starts of, of course with another ‘Sandforce Driven’ SSD capable of 550MB/s read and 500MB/s write and and has been designated as the DS Turbo.  He then discussed their Starter Turbo which was their SATA 3 value SSD capable of 350MB/s read and 300MB/s write but what he described next was a bit unexpected.

Mach Xtreme has joined JMicron to introduce a new mid-stream SATA 3 controlled SSD capable of 450MB/s read and 400MB/s write and will be available in capacities of 64, 128 and 256GB.  The Jet Turbo is pictured above in our feature spot.

THE KATANA

Things never stopped there for Mach Xtreme as Tomasz then showed us their new Macbook Air compatible SSD as shown here:

The ‘Katana’, as it has been affectionately named, is another SandForce based drive and capable of 275MB/s read and 225MB/s write.  For those who can afford the capacity, this little baby is available in capacities up to 480GB which is incredible for this form factor.

THE MSF mSATA SSD

Last but not least, Tomasz showed us something we had been anticipating for awhile now, a SF-1200 based mSATA drive which, once released, may just be the most powerful mSATA of its day.

Just larger than a Canadian 2 Dollar piece, this SSD will be pushing 285MB/s read and 275MB/s write and available in capacities up to 256GB.  We have to wonder just how this might make out in a Samsung Series 9 release.

Nice showing Mach Xtreme!!!
