Moving the world of AI a step forward this week, KIOXIA has introduced the world’s first 245.76TB Gen5 NVMe EDSFF (Enterprise and Data Center Standard Form Factor) E3.L form factor. This is a completely proprietary SSD based on KIOXIA controller, NAND and firmware and it features KIIOXIA 32-die stack BiCS QLC 3D NAND flash memory
The LC9 family is shown from the right with the highlighted E3.L, the E3.S center and the 2.5″ far left, both of which has a maximum capacity of 122.88TB . The LC9 family has a dual port design, die failure recovery and parity protectiion along with power loss protection and end-to-end data protection.
Performance for the LC9 famiily is described as up to 12GB/s read and 3GB/s write with up to 1.3 million IOPS read and the definite advantage of this design is the smaller footprint which equals a lower cooling need in the long run.
The combination of KIOXIAs CBA (CMOS directly Bonded to Array) technology along with this 32-die stack of 2TB BiCS 3D QLC flash allows the LC9 family to deliver the speed, scale, and density required to support the next wave of AI-centric workloads.
KIOXIA LC9 Series SSDs are now sampling to select customers and will be featured at the Future of Memory and Storage 2025 conference, taking place August 5–7 in Santa Clara.
