Avago (Formerly LSI) Announces 9300 Series Of 16-Port 12Gb/s SAS Host Bus Adapter — Up To Nearly 2,000,000 IOPS!!

Avago Technolgies, via its recent acquisition of LSI, is announcing that it is expanding its industry-leading lineup of 12Gb/s SAS host bus adapters (HBAs) to include new 16-port offerings.  The 9300-16i (internal connectivity) and 9300-16e (external connectivity) are their newest high port count SAS HBAs, providing 12Gb/s of bandwidth and (up to) nearly 2,000,000 IOPS of performance.  Avago’s new 16-port HBAs join their 4- and 8-port cousins to provide system builders and OEMs with the highest levels of connectivity for their high-end servers and storage systems.

Avago’s SAS 9300 16-port HBAs are an excellent solution for large scale-out storage requirements (up to 1024 SSDs, HDDs or tape drives) for demanding storage architectures such as data center, web or cloud applications.  By utilizing Avago SAS 9300 16-port HBAs, IT managers are able to deploy fewer servers, yet with more available storage ports, resulting in measurable cost reductions, lower power consumption, and a smaller data center footprint.

Is it comparable to the 9361? Does it have 1GB or 2GB of cache?

It would be nice if they made an optional 2 card width unit with a much more significant heat radiator.

You can always slap a fan in there 🙂

It is true – however I’d love to have a quiet system and a much larger radiator would do the trick. However my desire is moot if Avago never releases a 16i or 24i RAID controller to replace the very old 9260 and 9280 which just don’t have the throughput, processing power or cache required for newer drives.
