Yes I had similar results with Force 3 120Gb in an HP DC7600 with on board SATA2 !

Started at about 215 MB/sec, then dropped to 119MB/sec in the middle, then back up to 222 MB/sec

Does anybody know why it drops off?

I have orderd an Astrotek PCI Express SATA 6 Gb/s 2 Port Card and will post results in a few weeks to see if it is the onboard SATA 2 causing this problem.

Maximum is 220 Mb/s, drops to 118 Mb/s, then back up to 220Mb/s.

I have ordered a Astrotek PCI-e SATA 3 card and will test again when it arrives in the post.

It is only on sata 2, that’s why the max transfer is limited, however you can see significant drops in performance on some areas on the drive. These areas are the one, where there is actual data stored! Have you seen anything similar in your tests?
