Orico NVMe M.2 SSD Enclosure Review

ATTO DISK BENCHMARK VER. 3.05

ATTO Disk Benchmark is perhaps one of the oldest benchmarks going and is definitely the main staple for manufacturer performance specifications. ATTO uses RAW or compressible data and, for our benchmarks, we use a set length of 256mb and test both the read and write performance of various transfer sizes ranging from 0.5 to 8192kb. Manufacturers prefer this method of testing as it deals with raw (compressible) data rather than random (includes incompressible data) which, although more realistic, results in lower performance results.Very encouraging is the fact that we see a gradual performance progression as data sample sizes increased, to include high performance speeds above 1GB/s.

CRYSTAL DISK BENCHMARK VER. 5.5.0 X64

Crystal Disk Benchmark is used to measure read and write performance through sampling of random data which is, for the most part, incompressible. Performance is virtually identical, regardless of data sample so we have included only that using random data samples.

High sequentials drop just a bit and the low marks we see in the 4K range are typical of this controller, however 4K performance is not something we seek in data drives typically used to store and manipulate media.

AS SSD BENCHMARK VER 1.9

The toughest benchmark available for solid state drives is AS SSD as it relies solely on incompressible data samples when testing performance. For the most part, AS SSD tests can be considered the ‘worst case scenario’ in obtaining data transfer speeds and many enthusiasts like AS SSD for their needs. Transfer speeds are displayed on the left with IOPS results on the right.

AS SSD provides decent marks as well wityh both read and write performance above listed specs of 950MB/s.

FINAL THOUGHTS

We really like the Orico NVMe M.2 SSD Enclosure.  It has an amazing build.  It comes complete with everything you need to get it up and running quickly.  It’s performance is right up there with what we have seen with similar devices and…. its price is much better than those other devices.

We have no problems whatsoever recommending this product and, in fact, we find it deserving of our Editors Choice Award.

Plugable is superior to these screw down enclosures — so easy to use.

Agree totally except for the price of the plugable. I use it for so much simply because it is a very simple design. however, credit must be given to those items that are an excellent build as well.

Great job! Will this work with a Samsung 950 pro?

950GB/s that’s some insane speeds I know you meant MB/s

Nice review, thank you, I’m looking for an enclosure to make use of NVME drives that are just laying around.

Looking at Amazon.de I think I found the product but I’m not exactly sure if it’s the same model, there seems to be slight difference in the model numbering, it’s kinda confusing.

Could you please confirm if that’s the same or not?: https://www.amazon.de/ORICO-Aluminium-SSD-Geh%C3%A4use-ultraflacher-Typ-C-Geh%C3%A4use/dp/B07R4MLSX2/ref=sr_1_220_sspa?keywords=orico&qid=1560499685&s=gateway&sr=8-220-spons&th=1
