Seagate and LaCie Showcase Latest SSD Products – CES 2017 Update

LaCie, as many of you know, is Seagate’s premier/professional product brand. At CES they have on display their latest product updates, which feature upgraded interfaces and performance improvements. The Rugged Thunderbolt USB-C can connect to USB 3.0-compatible computers as well as to USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 models. It also comes with an integrated Thunderbolt cable that is compatible with first-generation Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt 2 devices and is fully bus-powered for complete mobility. In addition, the 1TB SSD variant can deliver speeds that are 30% faster than the previous version, up to 510MB/s. Of course, like always, these SSDs are shock, dust, and water resistant and come with 3-year warranties. The SSD variants are available in capacities of 500GB and 1TB and prices start at $429.99.

Next up, LaCie had on display a very fast external SSD, the LaCie Bolt3. This premier, “extreme performance” product as they put it, is for those who need the highest performance they can get in an external and portable form factor. It delivers speeds of up to 2.8GB/s for 6K video editing and features dual thunderbolt 3 ports which allow you to daisy chain devices. You can even power your laptop while using this drive with a compatible laptop. It is available in one capacity of 2TB and internally is actually two 1TB PCIe SSDs. If this is up your alley, be prepared to shell out a cool $2K for it, or more if you need more than one for your workflow.

Finally, we got to take a look at Seagate’s latest SSD product, it is called the Seagate Game Drive for Xbox One. It is a 512GB external storage device for those gamers who want the fastest load times possible on their Xbox system. It can hold over 15 games and with its compact size and sleek styling, you will for sure be the envy of all your friends. Speed and style come at a premium, however, so be prepared to dish out $199.99 to take this product into your possession. For those who need more storage than speed and don’t have big bucks to spend, you can also look into getting their other Game Drives that are HDD powered instead.

    M.2 SSHD 8TB 10TB 12TB

I would like to see a Seagate M.2 SSHD:
    A 64GB Flash + 2GB RAM M.2 connector with it’s own cable to a powered 12 TB 3.5″ Drive.
This would effectively allow a 12TB M.2 Drive, Running OS, Apps, Programs and Games at Full M.2 Speed, and still have room for all your music, movies, and games.

The M.2 connector would act just as the cable link controller / interface,
with the Flash, RAM, and 12TB all in the main 3.5″ Drive.

This would integrate a hardware based 2 level cache for M.2 speed and HD Huge storage. This integrated hardware would be compatible with all O/S.

They could also offer an M.2 4TB smaller version at 2.5″ for the smaller mITX and mATX cases.

On a Cost / Value ratio – no one could challenge high TB M.2 drives that Seagate could produce.
