VeloBit Offers vBoost For Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) Acceleration And Expansion

VeloBit is now offering vBoost — virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) optimization software for Windows.  vBoost accelerates popular Citrix XenDesktop deployments by improving how system storage interacts with Microsoft Hyper-V hypervisors.  Hypervisors are groups of virtual desktops that allow multiple users  to access the same commonly used data and applications simultaneously.

VeloBit vBoost dramatically reduces the I/O workload on storage systems by transferring a portion of I/O to a high-speed, server-based copy of the most frequently accessed data; such as master images.  This results in a significant reduction of IOPS demand on system storage, and results in faster and more responsive virtual desktops.  This allows for reduction of the number of hard disk drive (HDD) spindles required and/or allows an increase in the number of virtual desktops per server that can be deployed.  The local version of frequently accessed data is stored in RAM that is capable of 1,000,000 IOPS or more, and is automatically updated.  No change to virtual machines, hypervisor, operating system, server or storage is required; yet the entire system benefits from dramatic speed increases.

VevloBit’s vBoost supports the following host operating systems / hypervisors:

*   Hyper-V Server 2012

*   Hyper-V Service/Role

*   Windows 2012 Server (full server/ server core)

*   Windows 2008 Server R2 (full server / server core)

*   System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012

Utilizing VeloBit’s vBoost helps reduce datacenter capital expenditure costs significantly.  The cost of a virtual desktop is reduced to a mere $124/desktop by delivering outstanding virtual desktop performance with fewer servers and less storage.  This decreases infrastructure costs by up to 75%, and increases the number of virtual desktops that can be run on each server by 5 X!  Imagine virtual desktops that can boot in 2.4 seconds, while enjoying faster applications performance!

VeloBit has added another powerful tool for Windows-based servers to its lineup with vBoost.  The vBoost product page(s) can be viewed here.
