Patriot Torqx 2 128GB SATA 2.0 SSD Review – Initial Testing

ATTO DISK BENCHMARK 2.46

ATTO Disk Benchmark is perhaps one of the oldest benchmarks going and is definitely the main staple for manufacturer performance specifications.  For our testing, we use a set length of 256mb and test both the read and write performance of various transfer sizes ranging from 0.5 to 8192kb.  Manufacturers prefer this method of testing as it deals with raw data rather than random or mixed which, although more realistic, result with lower performance results.

Patriots listed perfomance specs are 270MB/s read and 230MB/s write and ATTO provides 274MB/s read and 178MB/s write which is a bit low but shouldn’t concern us as typically, the common user will never find opportunity to use high sequential performance scores in their daily computing activities.

CRYSTAL DISK BENCHMARK VER. 3.0 X64

Crystal Disk Benchmark is used to measure read and write performance through sampling of raw (0/1 Fill) or random data. We will test here with random data as it is the closest synthetic equal to real life use in this software.

blankIts reassuring to see Crystal bring the high sequential write scores up closer to listed specs and we get a glimpse of the all important low 4k random write results of 42MB/s.

AS SSD BENCHMARK VER 1.64

AS SSD Disk Benchmark is perhaps the only benchmark program that was created for solid state drives.

We will always see a difference with AS SSD and ATTO/Crystal because AS SSD calculates the average speed of so many sample runs whereas the other two portray the highest speed reached.  The one thing that catches our attention here is the read access time which is 0.437ms and we later confirm this result in our HDTune testing.  There is nothing wrong with this and the typical user  could not visually differentiate between this result and the typical 0.1ms speed but we believe it may play a role in our eventual Vantage tests.

Just curious, where is the 3DMark Vantage score for this drive. Either I’m having a really off day or it’s not here.
