WIN7 EXPERIENCE INDEX
The Win7 Experience Index (WEI) represents Microsofts method of rating computer systems and, more specific to our usage, provides a storage evaluation through a graduated rating system up to 7.9 on pc components and the system as a whole.
This benchmark is built into Windows and anyone can use it by simply typing:
- Go to Win Orb/All programs/Accessories and right click on the Command prompt;
- Click Run as Administrator
- In DOS, type winsat disk and hit enter.
WinSat itself measures our transfer speeds at almost 2654 MB/s and provides our result as 7.9 in all categories.
AIDA64 DISK BENCHMARK
As a matter of course, we will run the AIDA Latency measurement to test the latency of the device. As well, a great characteristic of hardware RAID cards is that they dont drain the much needed CPU resources of your computer. It just doesnt get better than zero usage! In contrast a motherboard RAID would cost you CPU power, but the RAID card does all the calculations itself.
The LSI 9265-8i gets extremely good latency, due in part to being on the x8 PCI-e bus. In general RAID cards will receive better latency than drives on onboard motherboard raid, and this holds true here, especially with the FastPath enabled:
And here is the read suite from AIDA 64:
If you want more detailed information on the testing, parameters and configurations used in testing, feel free to hit the forums! I will be happy to answer any questions, and as long as I have the hardware, if there is anything I have missed, I would be happy to run some tests for you and there will also be some more detailed presentations on 4k scaling for you enthusiasts out there 🙂 ~ Paul
