Intel 510 Series 250 GB SSD Review – Initial Testing With ATTO, Crystal and AS SSD

ATTO DISK BENCHMARK V. 2,46

ATTO Disk Benchmark is the quickest and simplest method to determine transfer speeds and utilizes the same test methodology as manufacturers in arriving at performance results.  It simply measures raw seguential transfer speeds for both read and write access at various transfer sizes and produces a very easily understood result.  These results are great as they actually improve upon the listed specifications of 500MB/s read and 315MB/s write.

CRYSTAL DISKMARK X64 V.3.01

The Crystal DiskMark test on the left was conducted with ‘oFill’ Data which is most like ATTO testing while that on the right utilized a random sample of data.  We thought we might try both as we were a bit surprised that the initial Crystal result with random data (right)  was a bit low.  We find it more surprising, however, that the 4k and 4k-QD32 results both looked a bit low for a solid state drive that has just been released.

AS SSD BENCHMARK V.1.5

We had the same feelings once again with AS SSD results.  Its great to see the high sequential numbers but the meat and gravy of the SSD is in your low 4k random reads and writes where you see the most visible difference.  The AS SSD score is much lower than expected and we put it through a few times and took the best we could get.  We think this drive is really going to feel the pressure in PCMark Vantage testing when lined up with the best in both SATA 2 and SATA 3 during testing through simulated scenarios that are based upon the most common user patterns.
