Just received it; and this just a place-holder for now, in-depth review with pics later.

Initial impression -- this is definately a premium convertible. Extremely well packaged. Fit and finish is outstanding; aluminum frame and textured carbon fiber (easy to grip in tablet configuration). Chiclet style, backlit keyboard, 2 x USB3.0 ports.

Pretty decent specs for a tablet/ultrabook I must say! But will it run Crysis? Nah, I know the answer to that :p

    OS-Wiz Guest

    Thanks Les, Sarge.

It might not run Crysis, but it runs COD4: Modern Warfare default settings just fine. Ran Futuremark Cold Gate, will post results later.

OK, here's some unboxing pics and a 3DMark Cloud Gate benchmark. I need to download FRAPS and get some FPS measurements in COD4: Modern Warfare.

Hmmm, wonder what's in the box

    Just awesome!

What technology we have available to us these days! Use it in the best of health.

I'll look forward to some more info, specs, photos, screenshots, benchmarks.

Who makes the SSD? What's the price on that little gem?
  7. SmogHog

    SmogHog Guest

    Looks like a gem.

How much space does the recovery partition use?

Bloatware installed by Dell usually a lot?

I'd like to see what's under the hood.

    What's upgradeable and what's not.

    Mico SD Slot?

How much space does the recovery partition use? Unknown right now, cloned to external drive currently

Bloatware installed by Dell usually a lot? Not as much as others I've worked on. Has a good driver updater but download site is slow.

What's upgradeable and what's not. Everything, except one stick of memory is soldered in, other slot upgradeable.

Mico SD Slot? No, but I've no need for one; bought 32GB USB3 thumbdrive.

Lite-On 128GB mSATA SSD>so It's in mSATA Slot and can be changed/upgraded if desired.

The 300Mbps dual band Intel 6235 w/BT4 is very nice.Usually the stock wireless cards are single band 150Mbps.

    Nice specs!

EDIT:I'm sad,I don't have any new toys to play with!

    My philosophy exactly!

Hi there Smoggy, nice to see your text.

Wizzer, that's a great toy, lottsa bells & whistles, love it! A real live desktop replacement for anyone who isn't an avid gamer.

Did they really just slap a shipping label on the unit's box and ship it as is with the packing list envelope on it? If they did not put it in another carton that is begging for damage or theft.

Lovely piece of kit OS! Those full HD IPS panels are great, I'm salivation all over the place! What is the screen real estate like? I haven't actually seen what a 12.5' screen looks like when it runs at 1920x1080 resolution.

Its double boxed and actually some of the best packaging I've seen.

---------- Post added at 12:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:13 PM ----------

Compared to my 27" IPS Gaming monitor its seems small. However, with the IPS panel the text is so sharp you'd have no trouble. And, of course, the 24-bit color palette is outstanding.

Did a bench on the 128GB SSD that comes with the XPS 12 $1400 model and a Lexar 32GB USB3 thumb drive.

    Happy with the 128GB SSD:

    Anvil 3039.jpg

Not so happy with he thumb drive.
    Advertised speeds
Read Speed: up to 155 MB/s
Write Speed: up to 150 MB/s

    Anvil 432.79 Lexar 32GB USB3.jpg

EDIT: just now noticed the thumb drive was not segment aligned. Is there such a thing for thumb drives? Anyone know how to align a thumb drive, and TIA ?????

I just heard from a guy with a Samsung Series 9 said it fit in there no problem. I am sure it would fit in all. We have asked for one for luck yet.
