Toshiba HK4E Enterprise SSD Review (800GB)

128KB SEQUENTIAL READ/WRITE

Sequential performance is measured similarly to the other two tests before. The drive is first secure erased to get it in a clean state. Next, we precondition the drive with a 128KB sequential write workload at QD256 until the drive is in a steady state. Finally, we cycle through QD1-256 for 5 minutes each for writes and then reads. All this is scripted to run with no breaks in between. The last hour of preconditioning, the average MB/s, and average latency for each QD is graphed below.

Sequential results are above the 503MB/s rating and averages just over 520MB/s write during our preconditioning. There is some mild variance where it dips down to about 500MB/s, but this is still around the actual rating so there is no reason to scold it for that here. Latency averages in the high side of 64ms as well, which is normal.

The Toshiba HK4E takes the crown from the Samsung SM863 here. IN sequential reads it surpassed the SM863 slightly from QD2 and up. Latency maintains under 8ms as well QD32.

In sequential write testing the HK4E beat out both the Samsung and Micron SSDs again. At QD4-32 it maintained a speed of 522MB/s and latency maxed out at an average of 8ms.
