Micron Announces Immediate Availability of 5210 ION SATA Enterprise SSD — World’s First Featuring 3D QLC NAND

Micron is announcing immediate availability of its newest SATA Enterprise SSD offering, this time featuring Micron 3D QLC NAND.  The 5210 ION SATA SSD is targeted toward the large data pools encountered in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning applications, real-time analytics of big data, object and block storage, media streaming and other read-intensive usage scenarios.

By utilizing Micron’s new cost-effective 3D QLC NAND, Micron is able to produce a solid state drive that directly competes cost-wise with 10,000 RPM HDDs, yet in a far more reliable device with no moving parts.  The 5210 ION is built on the standard 2.5″ x 7mm form factor, and utilizes the same controller and core components as the proven 5200 series of enterprise SSDs.  It also features a full enterprise feature set that includes AES 256-bit encryption, TCG enterprise options, end-to-end data path protection, power loss prevention and a five-year warranty.

blankMicron’s 5210 ION is being offered in capacities of 1.92TB, 3.84TB and 7.68TB, all with sequential read speeds of up to 540MB/s.  Sequential write speeds vary by capacity, with the 1.92TB at 260MB/s, the 3.84TB at 350MB/s and the 7.68TB at 360MB/s.  Endurance is optimized for read-intensive applications, and power consumption is stated as a max of 2.8W (reads), 3.6W (writes), and 1.5W (idle).  Users can customize their endurance and write performance using Micron’s Flex Capacity feature.
