Toshiba is announcing that their PX04S 12Gb/s SAS SSDs are now FIPS 140-2 Level 2 certified, providing the highest level of data security for users that require certified protection of their critical and/or valuable data. FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standards) are a set of standards that describe document processing, encryption algorithms and other information technology standards for use within non-military government agencies and by government contractors and vendors who work with the agencies (from the Government IT glossary).
Attaining FIPS certification is resource and manpower intensive, and requires a significant commitment to achieve and maintain. Toshiba’s FIPS 140-2 Level 2 certified PX04S SSDs are now shipping in NetApp® hybrid FAS and E-Series storage array systems. The PX04S is rated for sequential read speeds of up to 1900 MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 1100 MB/s. Random 4K read and write speeds are stated as up to 270,000 IOPS.
According to Jeremy Werner, VP of SSD Marketing and Product Planning for Toshiba, “In today’s ever-changing digital landscape, security breaches are a key concern for the complete spectrum of users ranging from corporations to individuals. CIOs and IT organizations continue to invest in security to fend off these constant threats. Toshiba is proud to work with NetApp to deliver FIPS certified FAS and E-series solutions which leverage Toshiba’s PX04S line of enterprise FIPS certified Self-Encrypting SAS SSDs to provide these customers with secure 12Gb/s SAS SSD storage.”
Adam Fore, NetApp’s Director of Product and Solutions Marketing, states that “In today’s digital business environment, data is a critical asset that must be protected and secured. By leveraging Toshiba’s long history of enterprise reliability and integrating their FIPS-certified 12Gb/s SAS SSDs we can ensure that our customers have the technologies they need to keep their data secure.”
