Plextor Adds M.2 (2280) Form Factor To M6e Lineup Of PCIe Gen2 X2 SSDs

Plextor, a leading producer of high-performance digital storage devices, is announcing the launch of the M6e M.2 Gen X2 solid state drive (SSD) in the 2280 (80.0mm x22.0mm) form factor.  Originally available only as part of Plextor’s multiple-award winning PCIe gaming SSD, the stand-alone version is designed to provide high performance storage for modern gaming notebooks, and the newest generation of M.2-compatible motherboards.  Consumers with M.2 PCIe slots can now obtain an ultra-fast SSD that offers sequential read speeds of up to 770 MB/s, and sequential write speeds of up to 625 MB/s.  The M6e M.2 attains random 4K read speeds of up to 105,000 IOPS and random 4K write speeds of up to 100,000 IOPS.

The M6e M.2 features a Marvell PCIe 9183 multi-core controller, a fast DDR DRAM cache onboard, and superior Toshiba Toggle NAND flash memory.  Plextor utilizes custom firmware provided by their own in-house firmware engineering team to provide stability and efficiency.  The M6e M.2 SSDs will be offered in capacities of 128GB, 256GB and 512GB.

In addition to the M6e M.2 PCIe Gen2 X2 SSD, Plextor is also announcing three M.2 SATA SSDs:  The M6G 2280 (80.0mm x 22.0mm), The M6G 2260 (60.0mm x 22.0mm), and the M6G 2242 (42.0mm x 22.0 mm).  This added range of M.2 options covers both users with PCIe M.2 slots and/or SATA M.2 slots.  Plextor uses a Zero-Failure, Zero Error mass testing standard that incorporates extensive burn-in testing of every individual SSD to ensure reliability and performance.  Plextor calculates the Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) of the M6e and M6G SSDs at 2,400,000 hours and backs them with a five-year warranty.

    Les, any thoughts on when the M6G 2260s will be out? I am in dire need of a quality 512gb 2260 M.2 ssd.The only one I see on the market now is by transcend…I have no experience with them and am hesitant. Thanks..

      It is all based on demand. Unfortunately companies dont do simple runs of say…500 pieces so, if there is any possibility whatsoever of not selling enough of that bunch to experience a comfortable profit in return, it won’t occur.
